Bike Fitting Services

At Bike and Run we have been selling bikes to our customers for almost 10 years and have been using a static bike fit system, bikefitting.com. This has worked well for us in assessing the correct frame size and for basic rider set up.

We have always realised the importance of getting the bike set up correctly as this effects the comfort and performance for the rider and this has been done purely from static measurements and from our own experience of riding and fitting bikes to our customers.

We will continue to provide a free static bike fit to our customers when buying a new bike or frame. However...

"Out with the Folklore, and in with the Science"

We have now invested time and money into our staff, and into our systems that help give the customer the best possible experience whilst cycling.  Cycle-Fitting is the understanding of the human interaction with a bicycle, with the specific aim of gaining efficiency, power and comfort for every rider.   Out with the folklore and in with the science we say.  We will always place science and knowledge above tradition.  The understanding of ones personal ergonomic and biomechanical needs dictate how the bicycle should be fitted to you, the rider, and not the rider to the bicycle.

Why get Cyclefitted?  Traditional methods of bicycle fitting focus on adjusting a bicycle into a perceived optimal position for "performance" and then contorting the rider to meet the confines of that position.  In other words: A bike should look like this, now make the rider fit the bike.  Under this system, assumptions are derived from a combination of racing history, self-proclaimed experts, and myths passed through the cycling world.

We have a qualified Cycle fitter in store, who has been trained by Trek Fitting Services, and is happy to discuss your needs, and what you want out of cycling.  The primary tenet of Trek Fitting Services is that individual variability of anatomy, range of motion, and riding style should define a rider's position.  In other words we make the bike fit the rider not the rider to the bike.

We also use Video capture technology which enables us to analyse the bike and rider whist in motion on a turbo trainer. This is the best way to perform a bike fit, since there is a significant difference between sitting stationary on your bike and when you are pedalling and under load as you would on a normal ride.

Of course a bike that fits you better will be more comfortable and you should be more efficient and be able to generate more power. You may also have injury problems or pain when riding which could be caused by incorrect set up.

During the bike fit  analysis we will assess the following

·         Rider Interview, riding style, flexibility, cycling goals etc.

·         Saddle height adjustment using assessment of knee angles

·         Fore-aft saddle adjustment using knee over pedal axle data

·         Handlebar height and reach adjustment using torso angles

·         Handlebar width and angle including brake lever position

·         cleat adjustment

·         footbed fitting

·         other adjustments as needed

One of our experienced staff will discuss the results and make the required adjustments to your bike and we will then re-assess the position until you are happy with your position on the bike.

You will receive a written record of your data and bike position for future reference.

The cost of the static bike fit using 'Bikefitting.com' remains at £50 although this service is free if you purchase a bike or frame from us.

The cost of a Full Bike fit starts at £125 and is by appointment only with one of our qualified and experienced bike fitters. Please call us on 0208 883 5945 for a slot.
